Will Time Travel Affect Our Memory? (Via Quora)

Great Question!

In my experiences with what I take to be time travel, memory was affected in the following ways:

*Most noticeably, I could remember the future as well as the past.

*However, the future I remembered did not necessarily belong to the same world I was living in then (after time-traveling). This lent a certain quality of unpredictability to my memories. For example, I couldn't necessarily remember the 'real past' of the world I was living in afterwards, as it was possible that the body that I time-traveled to really lived a different life than my own past to which I originally wished to return.

*In general, because of this, memories become less trustworthy. But, usually, it is just a mistake of confusing the future with the past, or one person with another.

*In general, there are more memories, and more types of memories, but not exponentially more, because it is just an additional factor of future as well as past memories. Arguably, however, this could make it twice as complicated.

*However, understanding time as a continuum with past and future makes memories more coherent, since they are not always arguably gone forever. The same events might happen again, so memories are more relevant than before.

*In fact, once I found that I even re-created the same work of art again, meaning that there is a high amount of inspiration which is just built into experiencing a certain time.

*So, there is more awareness of what memory means, but less trustworthiness about the real past and the real future.

"There goes my immortality" --- I was speaking. the context was my father telling me to buy regular milk instead of organic. It's possible this never happened, but was 'remembered' at an earlier point when I decided to travel back, even though at that time the key event hadn't happened yet. (circa 2015).

"With this dissolve, I decide to become a time-puzzle" --- I was speaking, after destroying my room, and before going to an insane asylum and then miraculously waking up in my own clean bedroom outside the asylum on a spooky night in which the Grim Reaper tried to kill me. (circa 2009).

"There, you're married" --- I said this to my art patrons Anthony and Crystal, before she granted me one wish, and I wished to time travel, and was sent back through my own life. (the future point being 2013).

"I bet you wish you hadn't time traveled". --- my mother was speaking in this scene, wielding a knife, and I think she scared me into time traveling back to where I had came from. It was a dark and stormy night, and everything seemed wrong.

"Want a piece of chocolate? I spent my whole day's budget on it!" then I appeared to go back in time at some point, after I had some kind of big problem.

"I'm not secretly taking, like, a lot of medication, are I?" "Well, sort, of! I didn't admit it, but my secret is, you're on ambergris" This was before I took a supposed immortality supplement. Thus, it must have been spiritual ambergris, or powdered ice-time or something (my step-father plays hockey).

"I think it's a scavenging rat"---my dad about an artwork I hadn't created yet in the current version of my life when he visited (the event might repeat soon).

"Okay, I'll clean out the refrigerator"---to appliances inspectors who were going to replace my refrigerator, only in a future life that I returned from (the even is repeating soon).

The Story of How I Was Offered a Time-Cube

Around 2001 I was in high school, sitting in the library during my lunch period, where I usually was during my lunch period.

Someone---I think his name was Stephen--- a friend of my friend Dinko, approached us from the corner of the library.

"Hey, want a Time Cube?" he said.

"Hey, where did you get those?" Dinko said. "Get away from me!"

Then he addressed me:

"You haven't, um, ever won one of these nice, shiny, magnificent, highly ornamental trophies before, have you? All you have to prove is that you've done something that is against history or evolution!"

"Sure, I qualify" I said. "Here's my proof: I've always been anachronistic, and I have large ears, which are against the evolutionary trend of history".

"Well, okay, here you go!" he said.

"But do you know what these are for?" Dinko said. "It means your primitive, like NOT EVOLVED".

The first guy said "But of course, you have to pay for it, of course! They cost a significant amount!"

"But I thought they were awards!" I said, in a chirpy voice.

"They are awards, but they're bad!" Dinko said. "Stay away from them!".

"Then I resent the award, and retract my interest" I said.

"Very well!" he said.

"At least you learned something" he whispered under his breath.

But the story doesn't end there. A few years later I took my imaginary time-cube to a "time-travelers convention" at MIT where I was almost arrested for claiming that I went back in time three years. Perhaps without the time-cube it would not have been possible. That occasion and other events are recorded in my forthcoming (eventually) book, The Dimensional Time-Traveler's Toolkit, the most professional resource I predict will be available for those who wish to time travel with their minds.

My Mother: "Yeah, that's possible. You come from another reality"


This kind of shift is what I call an 'altimatum': a point where things cohere to decohere. A period of profound knowledge narrows reality until it comes to a synergism, and then becomes deflationary. (Cool!).
