I was him, he figured out the occult art of dying of boredom. It’s what he wanted to do when he got what he wanted.

Nathan was a sort of average or above student in New Haven, in public schools near Yale.

His dad was studying political science, which took the family on a dangerous trip first by car through Mexico, then later, when the car trip failed, by plane. The family lived in Caracas, Venezuela discontinuously for about two years when Nathan was two and three years old. His dad was fluent in Spanish and they were all incredibly lucky to survive the voyage.

In New Haven, Nathan’s location looked like this, though they moved down the street to a similar-looking location. Nathan had an odd feeling of being Latin American, though he had freckles like he was Irish.

My mother, who was named ‘Faith’ originally, she later changed her name to Hannah, provided some interesting motherly feelings:

Nathan’s parents separated when Nathan was about five years old, though he continued to see both, living with his mother primarily starting at age 5 to 9.

When Nathan was about 8 or 9 Nathan spent time around John Hamilton, a character who worked for “rainbow recycling company”, did woodwork, and took Nathan and Brian to his rich parents’ house in Deep River, Connecticut. One of John’s relatives was Edith Hamilton the famous mythologist.

Nathan was inspired by Edith’s husband’s library to become an intellectual. Nathan inherited some of the books from the library including an old copy of Ivanhoe and a book on medieval knights when Johns’ parents passed away.

Nathan's dad lived in Washington, DC for a number of years, which led to some museum-going. Nathan liked the Natural History Museum and Air and Space Museum especially much.

Nathan was accustomed to college-looking places particularly just Yale. There were tag sales, and groups of friends went out trick-or-treating on Halloween.

Asian kids were sort of frowned at but were known to do better in school. In the 1980s school was full of stereotypes, prejudiced views of people. Nathan would stay at Jewish friend’s houses if they were reform Jews, but rarely at Asian houses.

Although Nathan knew some Spanish, after an accident where he lost his front teeth when he was six, he was subjected to laughing gas in a hospital when his parents weren’t looking after him.

At 13 Linden Street in New Haven, Nathan practiced balancing skills and they built a dangerous grounded “tree house” since it was too dangerous to build it high in the tree. Nathan played with the branches of the Forsythia bush which was eventually cleared away, playing with long sticks for balancing and “jousting” against a metal drum that had a narrow post attached.

Nathan struggled with homework in these years, but developed an interest in Medieval weapons and cultures. His family organized a notorious birthday party where Nathan pretended they were all in a club together.

When Nathan reached middle school the family moved down Linden Street with Nathan’s soon-to-be stepfather Phantom Wells who was interested in motorcycles and worked as a computer programmer at a liquor company.

Nathan’s brother took interest in computers and Nathan, still struggling in school, developed basic writing skills and by 18 vowed to be an existentialist poet.

Near the end of high school Nathan and Brian both played a lot of computer games and read science fiction novels. Nathan was an avid reader from the second year of middle school, though his memory for plot and metaphors was rarely very good.

Nathan considered himself a realist all this time even until he was 23 or so, and though he got a lot of high grades in school his performance was more hard-working than brilliant until college.

As a child Nathan was sane. He suffered headaches from a babyhood accident (wouldn’t recommend that). His one experience of mania during that time occurred at age 8. After seeing an incredibly brilliant performance by adults, he developed a series of thoughts about the Knights of the Apocalypse that led him to go door to door proposing marriage to adult women. At age 10 Nathan fell in love with Grace Murray Hopper, a programmer woman who lived near Princeton. Relationships were not allowed since Nathan was a minor. They met a few times which was expensive for the family. However, Hopper was 86 and died within a year. Nathan was heartbroken and visited the grave. Taking psychological advice, his dad burned their love letters so that Nathan wouldn’t become a necrophyliac.

Nathan’s memory lapsed out of adaptive instinct, and though he underwent a number of transformations, he did not overcome the thoughts about Hopper until 2025.

In 2023 Nathan discovered immortality or the nearest thing after undergoing a hellish transformation in the Connecticut hospital system.

Nathan was never suicidal (Hopper was a military woman who had been responsible for many deaths during World War II and Vietnam).
