Michael made predictions about his two sons.
He thought: Brian is smart and pessimistic, so something will happen to him, probably something smart and wonderful.
Then he thought: Nathan is not so smart, and expects everything to go well, so maybe something terrible will happen to Nathan.
So, he went around his business expecting something awful to happen to Nathan, and something wonderful to happen to Brian.
As the years went on, Nathan developed a mental illness, and Brian fell in love. And Michael thought, this is not so different than what I expected.
But, is mental illness really that bad? Nathan is taken care of by the government, and Brian's love relationship did not turn out perfect. Its time to revise expectations.
Nathan was optimistic about intelligence, and intelligence alone. Brian was pessimistic about love, and optimistic about college.
Now probably it will comtinue, but things will get better in the areas where they were worse, and worse in areas where they were fine. That's what happens when you're smart.
And it seemed like, Nathan's mental health was improving, but college cost a lot of money. Brian's love relationship failed, but he was still friends with his ex-girlfriend.
Things seemed to go as predicted! It just happens to depend on the model!
