Imagine someone really annoying appears in your mind, like a trickster dressed in a bard's costume.
Immediately you think to push your only weapon, an imaginary staff, against his solar plexus (the place between his stomach and his rib cage).
As it turns out, the way you imagined it the staff broke the flesh of the trickster's solar plexus, and the trickster in your mind goes away.
Now, here is the thing:
If the staff were completely insubstantial there would be no way for one part of it to push on another part with the strength to break the trickster's belly.
As soon as the trickster's belly is broken, we know ideas are real and if real means material, we know they are material.

Another case is really bad books.
If you write a whole lot of really bad books, you have to write more books to have the same content.
Therefore any content is real.
